  • Access to a virtual grocery store for creating a shopping list
  • Information on car costs, depreciation, insurance, maintenance, and repair
  • Information on public transport fares and routes
  • Calculator (optional)

Activities

  1. Research and Plan Menu (60 minutes)

Using online resources or cookbooks, research and select recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for each day of the week. Ensure that the meals are nutritious and within your budget. Write down the recipes and create a menu plan for the 7 days.

  2. Create Shopping List (30 minutes)

Visit a virtual grocery store website and add all the necessary ingredients for your menu plan to your shopping list. Remember to include personal items, pet food, cleaning products, and any miscellaneous items you may need. Check the prices and make adjustments if necessary to stay within your budget.

  3. Compare Car and Public Transport Costs (45 minutes)

Research the costs associated with owning a car, including depreciation, interest rates, insurance, maintenance, repair, and annual licenses and registrations. Estimate the monthly and yearly costs. Then, research public transport fares and calculate the cost of return trips from home to the airport and home to Armadale shopping centre for 5 days. Compare the total costs of owning a car versus using public transport.

  4. Analyze Advantages and Disadvantages (30 minutes)

Consider the advantages and disadvantages of owning a car versus using public transport. Think about factors such as convenience, environmental impact, parking availability, and flexibility. Write down your thoughts and discuss them with your family.
