Materials and Prep

  • Computer or device with internet access
  • Pen and paper
  • Cookbooks or online recipe sources
  • Calculator

Activities

  1. Research and Plan Menu:
  2. Using cookbooks or online recipe sources, research and plan a menu for your family for 7 days. Consider healthy nutrition options and variety. List all the research materials you used.

  3. Create Shopping List:
  4. Based on your menu plan, create a shopping list including all necessary ingredients. Use a virtual shopping list tool provided by an online grocery store. Don't forget to include personal items, pet food, cleaning products, and any miscellaneous items you may need.

  5. Stay Within Budget:
  6. Using the prices from the virtual shopping list, calculate the total cost of your groceries. Compare it to your $250 budget and see if you can stay under budget while still having healthy nutrition meals.

  7. Research Car Costs:
  8. Research online about car costs, depreciation, interest rates, third-party insurance, full comprehensive insurance, and the difference between third-party and comprehensive car insurance. Estimate monthly maintenance costs, repair costs, yearly car license, and car registration. Can you pay for more than one year of car license? Note down all your findings.

  9. Calculate Transportation Costs:
  10. Estimate the cost of a return ticket from home to the airport and from home to Armadale shopping centre by public transport for 5 days. Compare the cost of owning a car to traveling by public transport. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each option.
