Materials and Prep

  • Picture books about farms
  • Toy farm animals
  • Whiteboard or large paper and markers
  • Internet access (optional)

Prior knowledge: None

Activities

  1. Read a book about farms and discuss what you see in the pictures. Talk about different farm animals, crops, and machinery.
  2. Using the toy farm animals, create a pretend farm scene. Talk about the different roles of animals on a farm and how they help farmers.
  3. Draw a farm on the whiteboard or paper. Label different areas such as barn, fields, farmhouse, etc. Discuss the purpose of each area and why they are important on a farm.
  4. (Optional) If you have internet access, search for videos or pictures of real farms. Compare them to the farm you drew and discuss any similarities or differences.
