Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to recognize and identify words related to apples, and understand basic concepts about apples.
Materials and Prep
- A book about apples
- A bowl of apples
- Coloring materials
- Apple-themed flashcards (optional)
Activities
- Read a book about apples together. Talk about the different parts of an apple and discuss its colors and taste.
- Take out the bowl of apples and let the student explore them. Encourage them to touch, smell, and describe the apples using words they learned from the book.
- Draw or color pictures of apples. Talk about the colors they are using and ask them to describe their drawings.
- If you have apple-themed flashcards, show them to the student and ask them to name the objects or actions depicted on the cards. For example, if there is a card with a picture of someone eating an apple, ask them to say "eating".
Toddler Grade Talking Points
- "Apples are yummy fruits that come in different colors like red, green, and yellow. They taste sweet and juicy!"
- "When we look at an apple, we can see its skin, which can be smooth or bumpy. Inside, we find the flesh and seeds."
- "We can use our senses to explore apples. We can touch them to feel their texture, smell them to see if they have a nice scent, and even taste them to see if we like their flavor."
- "Let's draw or color pictures of apples. We can use different colors to make them look bright and pretty. What colors do you want to use?"
- "If you have apple flashcards, let's play a game! I will show you a card, and you tell me what you see. For example, if you see someone taking a bite from an apple, say 'eating'."
