- Construction paper
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Markers or crayons
No prior knowledge or preparation is required.
Activities
- Create a Space Collage:
- Drawing Planets:
- Planet Sorting:
Provide the student with pictures or posters of outer space. Let them cut out different shapes or objects from the pictures and glue them onto a piece of construction paper. Encourage them to use their imagination and create their own space scene.
Ask the student to draw different planets on separate pieces of construction paper. Help them label the planets with their names. Discuss the unique characteristics of each planet as they draw.
Take the drawings of the planets and mix them up. Ask the student to sort the planets based on their size, color, or any other characteristic they choose. Discuss why they made certain groupings.
Preschool Grade Talking Points
- "Outer space is a big place that is beyond our Earth. It is filled with stars, planets, and many other things."
- "The Earth is a planet too! It is special because it is where we live. It has water, land, and air for us to breathe."
- "There are many different planets in outer space. Some are big, some are small, and they have different colors."
- "We can use our imagination to create our own space scenes with stars, planets, and spaceships."
- "We can learn about the planets by looking at pictures and drawing them ourselves. Each planet is unique and has its own special features."
- "Sorting the planets helps us see how they are similar or different. We can group them based on their size, color, or other things we notice."
