Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the basic concepts of environmental science and how it relates to the field of veterinary medicine.

Materials and Prep

  • Pen and paper
  • Access to the internet or library resources
  • Optional: Environmental science textbook or reference materials

No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Research: Instruct the student to research and write a short report on the impact of environmental factors on animal health. They should explore topics such as air and water pollution, climate change, habitat destruction, and the spread of diseases due to environmental changes.
  2. Case Study: Provide the student with a fictional case study of a sick animal. Ask them to analyze the symptoms and determine if any environmental factors could be contributing to the illness. Have them propose potential solutions to mitigate the impact of these factors.
  3. Experiment: Conduct a simple experiment to demonstrate the effects of pollution on plant growth. Have the student set up two plant pots, one exposed to polluted air or water, and the other in a controlled environment. Observe and discuss the differences in growth and health between the two plants.
