Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to apply arithmetic skills to solve problems using Legos.
Materials and Prep
- Lego bricks (various sizes and colors)
- Pen and paper
- Counting objects (optional)
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
-
Counting and Sorting:
Start by counting the number of Lego bricks you have. Sort them by color or size into different groups.
-
Addition and Subtraction:
Create simple addition and subtraction problems using Lego bricks. For example, if you have 5 red bricks and 3 blue bricks, how many bricks do you have in total? If you take away 2 red bricks, how many will be left?
-
Pattern Building:
Use Lego bricks to create different patterns. For example, you can make a pattern of red, blue, red, blue, or a pattern of small, medium, large, small, medium, large.
-
Measurement:
Use Lego bricks to measure objects around the house. How many Lego bricks long is the table? How many bricks tall is a book?
