Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and describe key aspects of Native American culture and traditions through reading and comprehension activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Native American books or articles
  • Writing materials (paper, pencil)
  • Internet access (optional)

Activities

  1. Read a Native American story together. Discuss the main characters, setting, and plot. Ask the student to share their favorite part of the story and explain why.

  2. Choose a specific Native American tribe and research information about their culture and traditions. Write down at least three interesting facts about the tribe. If internet access is available, use reliable websites to gather information.

  3. Read a non-fiction book or article about Native American history. Discuss the main ideas and ask the student to summarize what they learned in their own words.

  4. Have the student create a timeline of important events in Native American history. They can use drawings or write short descriptions for each event.
