Materials and Prep
- A Singapore math-themed reading passage (can be found online or created by the teacher)
- A notebook or paper to record answers
- A pencil or pen
Activities
- Read the Singapore math-themed passage aloud to yourself.
- Read the passage again, but this time, underline or highlight any unfamiliar words or phrases.
- Look up the meanings of the unfamiliar words or phrases using a dictionary or an online resource.
- Write down the definitions of the unfamiliar words or phrases in your notebook or on a separate piece of paper.
- Re-read the passage and try to answer the following questions:
- What is the main idea of the passage?
- Who are the main characters or people mentioned in the passage?
- What problem or challenge do the characters face?
- How do the characters solve the problem?
- What did you learn from reading this passage?
- Discuss your answers with a parent, guardian, or teacher.
- Reflect on the passage and write a short paragraph summarizing what you learned and how it relates to Singapore math.
