  • Baking pan
  • Oven
  • Ingredients: flour, sugar, eggs, butter, milk, baking powder, vanilla extract

Fourth Grade Talking Points

  • "Reading a recipe is like following a set of instructions. It tells us what ingredients we need and how to combine them."
  • "Measuring cups and spoons help us measure the right amount of each ingredient. It's important to be precise in baking."
  • "Mixing the ingredients together creates a batter, which is the base of our cake. We can use a whisk or an electric mixer to make it smooth."
  • "Preheating the oven ensures that it's hot enough to bake the cake properly. We set it to 350°F (175°C)."
  • "While the cake is baking, we can clean up and prepare frosting or decorations to make it even more delicious and appealing."
  • "When the cake is done baking, we need to let it cool before adding frosting. This helps it set and prevents it from melting."
  • "Finally, we get to enjoy the fruits of our labor! Sharing a homemade cake with loved ones is a special treat."
