Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to enhance your language arts and reading skills by engaging in fun activities related to baby dolls, pretend play, and building blocks.
Materials and Prep
- Baby dolls
- Pretend play accessories (e.g., clothes, bottles, diapers)
- Building blocks
- A comfortable reading area with pillows or a cozy blanket
No additional preparation is required.
Activities
- Storytime with Baby Dolls
- Pretend Play Bookstore
- Building Block Letter Hunt
Choose a favorite storybook and gather your baby dolls. Sit in the reading area and read the story aloud to your dolls. Use different voices for each character to make it more engaging.
Set up a pretend play bookstore using your building blocks as shelves. Select a few books from your collection and arrange them on the shelves. Use your dolls as customers and practice "selling" books to them. You can even create price tags for the books using small pieces of paper.
Take some building blocks and write different letters of the alphabet on them. Hide the blocks around the room. Encourage your dolls to go on a letter hunt and find the blocks. Once they find a block, ask them to identify the letter and its sound.
