Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to read and understand a story about going to the beach.
Materials and Prep
- Beach-themed picture book
- Beach-related flashcards (optional)
Activities
-
Read a beach-themed picture book together. Discuss the illustrations and encourage the student to make predictions about the story.
-
Ask the student to retell the story in their own words. Prompt them with questions like "What happened at the beginning, middle, and end of the story?"
-
Create a beach-related word bank on a piece of paper or whiteboard. Write down words related to the beach, such as "sand," "waves," "sun," "shells," etc. Encourage the student to read and practice saying the words.
-
If available, use beach-related flashcards to play a matching game. Lay out the flashcards face down and take turns flipping two cards at a time. If the pictures on the cards match, the student gets to keep them. The player with the most matches wins!
-
Wrap up the lesson by asking the student to draw a picture of their favorite part of going to the beach. Encourage them to write or dictate a sentence about their drawing.
