Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to improve your writing skills through engaging language arts activities focused on reading comprehension.

Materials and Prep

  • Pencil and paper
  • Access to a library or online reading resources

Activities

  1. Read a short story or an article of your choice from a book or online resource. Take notes on the main characters, setting, and plot.

  2. Write a brief summary of what you read, focusing on the main idea and key details. Use your notes to help you organize your thoughts.

  3. Identify new vocabulary words from the text. Look up their definitions and write sentences using each word correctly.

  4. Choose a favorite scene or event from the story and rewrite it from a different character's perspective. How would the story change if it was told from a different point of view?

  5. Create a new ending for the story. Think about how you would resolve any conflicts or unanswered questions. Write a paragraph explaining your new ending.
