Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to analyze and interpret a superhero-themed reading passage, and demonstrate comprehension by answering questions and engaging in creative activities.
Materials and Prep
- Superhero-themed reading passage (can be a short story, comic book, or article)
- Paper and pencils
- Optional: art supplies for creating a superhero character
Activities
- Read the superhero-themed passage together.
- Discuss the main characters and their superpowers.
- Engage in a comprehension activity.
- Create your own superhero character.
- Write a short story or comic strip featuring the new superhero.
Take turns reading aloud, and encourage the student to ask questions or make comments during the reading.
Talk about the traits and abilities of the superheroes, and ask the student to share their favorite character and why.
Ask the student to summarize the main events of the story or identify the problem and solution. Encourage them to provide evidence from the text to support their answers.
Using the art supplies, have the student design their own superhero, complete with a name, superpower, and costume. Encourage them to think about the character's backstory and motivations.
Have the student use their imagination to craft an adventure for their superhero. They can write a short story or create a comic strip with illustrations and dialogue.
