Materials and Prep

- Pencils or crayons
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
-
Activity 1: Scribble Writing
Encourage the toddler to freely scribble on a piece of paper. Explain that this is their own special way of writing. Praise their effort and creativity.
-
Activity 2: Drawing and Labeling
Ask the toddler to draw a simple picture, such as a house or an animal. Then, help them label the different parts of their drawing by writing the corresponding words next to each element. For example, if they draw a house, write "roof," "door," and "window" next to the respective parts.
-
Activity 3: Dictated Story
Have a conversation with the toddler about their favorite animal or a fun adventure they would like to go on. Write down their words as they speak, and read it back to them. This will help them understand that their spoken words can be written down to tell a story.
