Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create a fun and colorful collage using various materials.

Materials and Prep

  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Magazines or newspapers
  • Markers or crayons

Before starting the lesson, make sure you have all the materials ready and a clean workspace to work on.

Activities

  1. Begin by discussing different types of art and what a collage is. Show examples of collages from books or the internet.
  2. Give each student a sheet of construction paper as their base for the collage.
  3. Ask the students to cut out various shapes and images from the magazines or newspapers. Encourage them to choose different colors and textures.
  4. Once they have a collection of cutouts, instruct them to arrange and glue the pieces onto their construction paper in a way that creates an interesting composition.
  5. After the glue has dried, students can use markers or crayons to add details or draw additional elements to their collage.
  6. Display the finished collages and have a class discussion about the different choices each student made and what they like about their artwork.
