Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to cite strong and thorough text evidence to support what the text says explicitly, as well as inferences drawn from the text.
Materials and Prep
- Pencil
- Blank paper or notebook
- Access to a text of your choice (book, article, etc.)
Before starting the lesson, make sure you have read and understood the text you will be working with.
Activities

Read a short passage from the text of your choice.
As you read, underline or highlight any statements that provide explicit information.

Identify any inferences you can make based on the explicit information in the text.
Write down these inferences in your notebook.

Find specific sentences or phrases from the text that support your inferences.
Write these sentences or phrases next to each corresponding inference in your notebook.

Discuss your findings with a parent or guardian, explaining how you used text evidence to support your inferences.
