Objective

By the end of this lesson, the Fourth grade homeschool student will have a better understanding of physical and mental resilience, and will be able to identify strategies to develop and improve their own resilience.

Materials and Prep

  • Pen or pencil
  • Blank paper or notebook
  • Access to a quiet and comfortable space

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Activity 1: Resilience Reflection

Ask the student to find a quiet and comfortable space. Instruct them to take a few deep breaths and reflect on a challenging situation they have faced recently. Have them write down or draw their thoughts and feelings about the situation, paying attention to how they handled it and what they learned from it.

  2. Activity 2: Resilience Strategies Brainstorm

Ask the student to brainstorm a list of strategies or actions they can take to develop and improve their resilience. Encourage them to think about both physical and mental aspects of resilience. They can write or draw their ideas on a blank piece of paper or in their notebook.

  3. Activity 3: Resilience Action Plan

Based on their brainstormed ideas, have the student create an action plan to develop their resilience. They should choose at least three strategies from their list and outline how they will implement them in their daily life. They can include specific actions, goals, or reminders to help them stay on track.
