Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to read and understand a recipe for baking cookies.

Materials and Prep

  • Recipe for baking cookies
  • Ingredients and tools needed for baking cookies (e.g., flour, sugar, butter, mixing bowl, measuring cups, etc.)
  • Access to an oven
  • Prior knowledge of basic reading skills (letter recognition, phonics, etc.)

Activities

  1. Introduce the concept of a recipe and explain that it is a set of instructions for cooking or baking.

  2. Show the student the recipe for baking cookies and read it aloud together. Encourage the student to follow along with their finger as you read.

  3. Discuss any unfamiliar words or terms in the recipe and help the student understand their meanings.

  4. Ask the student to identify the different ingredients and tools needed for baking cookies as mentioned in the recipe.

  5. Guide the student in gathering the ingredients and tools required for baking cookies.

  6. Read each step of the recipe and have the student follow the instructions to mix the ingredients and prepare the cookie dough.

  7. Once the dough is ready, assist the student in shaping and placing the cookies on a baking sheet.

  8. Preheat the oven and guide the student in placing the baking sheet in the oven for baking.

  9. While the cookies are baking, discuss the concept of time and explain that they need to wait for a specific duration for the cookies to be ready.

  10. Once the cookies are baked, allow them to cool down and enjoy the delicious treats!
