Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand and identify different aspects of the Fall season.

Materials and Prep

  • Colored pencils or crayons
  • White paper
  • Access to a window or outdoor area
  • Prior knowledge of the four seasons (including Fall)

Activities

  1. Take a nature walk outside or observe the view from a window. Look for signs of Fall, such as:

    • Leaves changing color
    • Leaves falling from trees
    • Cooler temperatures
    • Pumpkins or scarecrows
  2. Using the colored pencils or crayons and white paper, draw a picture of your favorite thing about Fall. It could be a leaf, a pumpkin, or anything else that represents the season to you.

Kindergarten Grade Talking Points

  • "Fall is one of the four seasons. Can you name the other three seasons? They are Spring, Summer, and Winter!"
  • "During Fall, the weather starts to get cooler. We might need to wear jackets or sweaters to stay warm."
  • "One of the things we notice in Fall is that the leaves on the trees change color. They can turn yellow, orange, and red. Isn't that beautiful?"
  • "Have you ever seen leaves falling from trees during Fall? It's like they're saying goodbye to us before winter comes."
  • "Fall is also the time when we celebrate Halloween and Thanksgiving. We might see pumpkins and scarecrows around during this season."
