Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to read and comprehend a short passage about gymnastics.

Materials and Prep

  • Printed passage about gymnastics
  • Pencil or crayon

Activities

  1. Warm-up: Start by stretching your body, just like gymnasts do before their routines. Stretch your arms, legs, and back. Take deep breaths and relax.

  2. Read the Passage: Read the printed passage about gymnastics. Take your time and sound out any unfamiliar words. Ask for help if needed.

  3. Highlight Key Words: Using a pencil or crayon, highlight or circle the words that describe gymnastics in the passage. These words could be related to different gymnastics moves, equipment, or the qualities of a gymnast.

  4. Draw a Picture: Based on what you read, draw a picture of a gymnast performing a routine. Include some of the key words you highlighted in your drawing.

  5. Share and Discuss: Show your drawing to a family member or friend. Explain what you learned from the passage and how you incorporated the key words into your picture.
