Let's Begin Our Adventure!
Hello, super plant explorer! Today, we're going on a reading adventure in a magical herb garden. Herbs are special plants that can smell amazing and sometimes help us feel better, like in yummy mint tea!
Discovering Herb Sounds
Let's look at some of our special herbs and learn their beginning sounds!
- Mint: Show the mint. Let's smell it! Mmmmm, mint starts with the /m/ sound. Can you say /m/? Let's find the letter M! (Show M/m cards). Can you trace the letter M in the air?
- Lavender: Show the lavender. Smell the lovely lavender! Lavender starts with the /l/ sound. Can you say /l/? Let's find the letter L! (Show L/l cards). Let's draw a wiggly line like the letter L.
- Rosemary: Show the rosemary. Rub it gently and smell. Rrrrrosemary starts with the /r/ sound. Can you make a roaring /r/ sound? Let's find the letter R! (Show R/r cards).
- Sage: Show the sage. Look at its soft leaves. Sssage starts with the /s/ sound, like a quiet snake. Can you say /s/? Let's find the letter S! (Show S/s cards).
Story Time!
Now, let's snuggle up and read our special book about gardens and plants. Listen carefully for any plants we talked about or other fun plant words!
(Read the selected picture book aloud, engaging the student with questions about the pictures and story.)
Herb Matching Fun!
Let's play a game! Place the herb picture cards face up. Place the letter cards (M, L, R, S) face up separately. Can you match the letter to the herb picture that starts with that sound? M goes with... Mint! L goes with... Lavender!
Creative Plant Drawing
Let's draw one of the herbs we learned about today! What color was the lavender? What shape were the mint leaves? You can try drawing the first letter of its name on your picture too!
Great job today, herb explorer! You learned new letter sounds and discovered some amazing plants!
