Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and locate different countries on a world map.
Materials and Prep
- World map (can be printed or drawn)
- Coloring pencils or markers
- Index cards
No prior knowledge or preparation is needed for this lesson.
Activities
- Introduce the concept of countries to the student. Explain that countries are large areas of land with their own governments, people, and cultures.
- Show the student a world map and explain that it is a representation of all the countries in the world.
- Ask the student to choose a country they are interested in learning about.
- Using the index cards, have the student write the name of the chosen country on one card and draw its flag on another card.
- Help the student locate the chosen country on the world map and place the flag card on that location.
- Encourage the student to color the country on the map and decorate the flag card.
- Repeat steps 3-6 for additional countries if desired.
