Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify different animal features and adaptations and understand how they help animals survive in their environments.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and pencil
- Internet access (optional)
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Research and Draw: Choose an animal of your choice and research its features and adaptations. Take notes on what you find. Then, using your notes, draw a detailed picture of the animal and label its features and adaptations.
- Animal Adaptation Match: Create a set of index cards or small pieces of paper. On one side, write down the name of an animal, and on the other side, write down one of its adaptations. Shuffle the cards and try to match the animal with its correct adaptation. Take turns with a family member or friend to make it more fun.
- Design Your Own Animal: Imagine and draw your own animal with unique features and adaptations. Think about the environment it would live in and how its features would help it survive. Write a short paragraph describing your animal and its adaptations.
