Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the basic concepts of chemistry involved in baking a cake from scratch.

Materials and Prep

  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Bowl and whisk
  • Mixing ingredients (flour, sugar, butter, eggs, baking powder, vanilla extract)
  • Oven
  • Apron and oven mitts
  • Paper and pencil for taking notes

Before starting the lesson, make sure you have all the materials ready and have a basic understanding of measuring and mixing ingredients.

Activities

  1. Introduce the concept of baking and explain that it involves a chemical reaction.
  2. Discuss the different ingredients needed for baking a cake and their purposes.
  3. Measure and mix the ingredients together in a bowl, explaining the importance of accurate measurements.
