Objective

By the end of this lesson, the Seventh grade-level homeschool student will be able to engage in basic conversations in French and understand useful phrases in the language.

Materials and Prep

  • Pen and paper
  • French-English dictionary (optional)

No prior knowledge of French is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Introduce basic greetings in French:

    • Bonjour - Hello
    • Comment ça va? - How are you?
    • Je m'appelle [Name] - My name is [Name]
  2. Practice pronunciation:

    • Have the student repeat the greetings and phrases multiple times, focusing on correct pronunciation.
    • Encourage the student to listen to French audio clips or watch videos to further improve pronunciation.
  3. Engage in a role-play conversation:

    • Provide a simple scenario for the student to act out, such as ordering food at a café or asking for directions.
    • Guide the student through the conversation, using the greetings and phrases learned earlier.
    • Encourage the student to be creative and add their own responses.
