By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and locate the continents and oceans on a world map.
Materials and Prep
- A world map (can be printed or drawn)
- A globe (optional)
- Coloring pencils or markers
- Paper
Activities
- Introduction: Show the world map or globe to the student and explain that the Earth is made up of continents and oceans.
- Identify Continents: Ask the student to name the continents they already know. Write down their answers on the paper.
- Locate Continents: Using the world map, ask the student to locate and color each continent. Encourage them to use different colors for each continent.
- Identify Oceans: Ask the student to name the oceans they already know. Write down their answers on the paper.
- Locate Oceans: Using the world map, ask the student to locate and color each ocean. Encourage them to use a different color for each ocean.
- Review and Recap: Go through the colored map with the student, pointing out each continent and ocean. Ask them to name the continents and oceans as you point to them.
