Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand and apply basic arithmetic concepts related to Beach Day.
Materials and Prep
- Counting objects (e.g., seashells, beach toys)
- Writing materials (pencil, paper)
- Beach-themed visuals (optional)
Activities
-
Counting Seashells: Collect a handful of seashells and place them in front of you. Count the seashells out loud, pointing to each one as you count. Practice counting from 1 to 10 and back down to 1.
-
Beach Toy Addition: Gather some beach toys (e.g., buckets, shovels, beach balls). Choose two different toys and place them in front of you. Ask yourself, "How many toys do I have in total?" Count the toys and write down the number. Repeat this activity with different combinations of toys.
-
Beach Umbrella Subtraction: Draw a picture of a beach umbrella on a piece of paper. Color it in with your favorite colors. Now, imagine that some of the colors are missing from the umbrella. Write down the number of missing colors and solve the subtraction problem by crossing out that many colors from your drawing.
