Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to enhance your reading skills while learning about baking.
Materials and Prep
- Baking book or recipe
- Paper and crayons/markers
- Oven mitts (optional)
Before starting the lesson, make sure you have a baking book or recipe to read from. Prepare some paper and crayons/markers for the activity. If you have oven mitts, you can also include them for a fun sensory experience.
Activities
- Read a Baking Book
- Draw and Label
- Role Play Baking
Start by reading a baking book together. Look at the pictures and discuss what you see. Talk about the ingredients and steps involved in baking. Encourage your child to ask questions and make connections to their own baking experiences, if any.
After reading, ask your child to draw and label their favorite baked treat. For example, if they enjoy cupcakes, they can draw a cupcake and label the different parts like the cake, frosting, and sprinkles. This activity will help reinforce vocabulary and comprehension skills.
Put on your imaginary chef hats and oven mitts! Pretend to bake together by acting out the steps involved. Use simple language and encourage your child to participate. For example, you can say, "Let's mix the ingredients together. Can you stir the bowl?" This activity will enhance their understanding of sequencing and following instructions.
