Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand how the excretory system works and compare it to a water treatment plant.

Materials and Prep

  • Pen and paper
  • Access to a computer or books for research (optional)

Activities

  1. Research: Use the provided materials or access a computer or books to research about the excretory system and water treatment plants. Take notes on the key points you find interesting or important.

  2. Comparison Chart: Create a comparison chart on a piece of paper or a whiteboard. Divide it into two columns, labeling one "Excretory System" and the other "Water Treatment Plant". Fill in the chart with the similarities and differences you have learned from your research.

  3. Illustration: Draw a diagram or make a visual representation of the excretory system and a water treatment plant. Label the different parts and explain their functions.

  4. Discussion: Share your comparison chart and illustration with a family member or friend. Discuss the similarities and differences between the excretory system and a water treatment plant. Explain why each part is important and how they contribute to the overall function.

Third Grade Talking Points

  • "The excretory system is like our body's own water treatment plant."
  • "Just like a water treatment plant cleans and filters water, our excretory system cleans and filters waste from our body."
  • "The excretory system consists of organs such as the kidneys, bladder, and urethra, which work together to remove waste from our blood and produce urine."
  • "Similarly, a water treatment plant has different stages and processes to remove impurities from water, making it safe for us to drink."
  • "Both the excretory system and water treatment plants play an important role in maintaining the health and cleanliness of our bodies and environment."
