Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to apply consumer math concepts to real-life situations and make informed decisions as a consumer.

Materials and Prep

  • Pen or pencil
  • Calculator
  • Internet access (optional)

Prior knowledge of basic math operations and understanding of percentages is helpful.

Activities

  1. Research and choose three different brands of a product you commonly use or are interested in purchasing. It could be a snack, a personal care item, or any other consumer product. Write down the price, quantity, and any relevant information for each brand.

  2. Calculate the unit price for each brand by dividing the price by the quantity. This will help you compare the cost per unit of each product.

  3. Consider other factors such as quality, ingredients, or customer reviews. Make a list of pros and cons for each brand to help you evaluate which one offers the best value for your money.

  4. Based on your research and analysis, make a decision on which brand you would choose to purchase. Explain your reasoning, taking into account the unit price and other factors you considered.
