Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to explore and identify different fruits and vegetables, understand their importance in our diet, and learn about their different colors, shapes, and textures.

Materials and Prep

  • A variety of fruits and vegetables (e.g., apple, banana, carrot, cucumber, etc.)
  • A cutting board and a child-safe knife (optional)
  • Plates or bowls for displaying the fruits and vegetables
  • A large piece of paper and crayons
  • A washcloth or paper towels for cleaning hands
  • Knowledge of the names and basic characteristics of the fruits and vegetables

Activities

  1. Introduction: Show the different fruits and vegetables to the student, discussing their colors, shapes, and textures. Encourage them to touch and feel the produce.
  2. Sorting Game: Ask the student to sort the fruits and vegetables into two groups: fruits and vegetables. Discuss the differences between the two groups.
  3. Taste Testing: Cut or slice some of the fruits and vegetables and offer them to the student for taste testing. Encourage them to describe the flavors and textures they experience.
  4. Drawing and Coloring: Give the student a large piece of paper and crayons. Ask them to draw their favorite fruit or vegetable and color it using the appropriate colors.
  5. Discussion: Sit with the student and have a conversation about why fruits and vegetables are important for our health. Emphasize their nutritional value and the benefits they provide to our bodies.
