Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to analyze and discuss the elements of effective YouTube streaming and apply reading comprehension skills to evaluate the content.

Materials and Prep

  • A computer or tablet with internet access
  • Headphones or speakers
  • Notebook or paper for taking notes

Prior knowledge of basic YouTube usage and familiarity with different genres of YouTube content is helpful, but not required.

Activities

  1. Introduction to YouTube Streaming (15 minutes)
    Discuss with the student the concept of YouTube streaming and its popularity. Show examples of different types of YouTube streams, such as gaming, vlogging, or educational streams. Encourage the student to share their favorite YouTube streamers and briefly describe what they enjoy about their content.
  2. Reading Comprehension Exercise (20 minutes)
    Select a YouTube stream that aligns with the student's interests. Have the student watch a portion of the stream and then pause it. Provide them with a set of comprehension questions related to the content they just watched. Ask the student to answer the questions using evidence from the video. Discuss their answers together, focusing on their ability to analyze and interpret the information presented.
  3. Creating a Stream Review (25 minutes)
    Ask the student to choose a YouTube stream they recently watched and enjoyed. Instruct them to write a review of the stream, focusing on the content, delivery, and overall appeal. Encourage them to use descriptive language and provide specific examples to support their opinions. Once they have completed their review, have them share it with you and discuss their thoughts.
