By the end of this lesson, you will be able to write a creative story using elements from your interests in Lego, nature, graphic novels, cooking, space, and science.

Materials and Prep

  • Blank paper
  • Pencils or pens
  • Optional: Colored pencils or markers

No prior knowledge or preparation is needed for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Brainstorming: Take a few minutes to think about your favorite Lego creation, a memorable experience in nature, a graphic novel you enjoyed, a cooking adventure, a fascinating space-related topic, or an interesting scientific concept. Jot down some key points or ideas for each interest.

  2. Choosing an Interest: Select one of your interests from the brainstorming activity that you feel most excited about writing a story on. Circle or highlight it.

  3. Story Elements: Identify the key elements of a story, such as characters, setting, plot, and theme. Write down these elements on your paper, leaving space to fill in the details for your chosen interest.

  4. Writing the Story: Using the story elements you identified, begin writing your creative story incorporating your chosen interest. Let your imagination run wild and have fun with it! Remember to include descriptive language, dialogue, and a clear beginning, middle, and end.

  5. Illustrating (Optional): If you enjoy drawing, you can illustrate your story by creating accompanying pictures or a comic strip using colored pencils or markers.

  6. Sharing and Reflecting: Once you have completed your story, share it with someone in your family or a friend. Discuss what you enjoyed most about writing the story and what challenges you faced. Reflect on how your interests influenced your creative process.
