Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the concept of plant swap and how plants grow.
Materials and Prep
- Two small potted plants
- A shovel or small gardening tool
- Watering can or spray bottle
- Planting soil
- A small container or pot for each student
- Markers or stickers for labeling
- A notebook or journal
Prior to the lesson, make sure the plants are healthy and ready for swapping. Prepare enough containers for each student.
Activities
- Introduce the concept of plant swap and explain that it's a fun way to exchange plants with friends.
- Show the two potted plants and explain that you will be swapping them later.
- Discuss the basic needs of plants, such as sunlight, water, and soil.
- Have the student help you transplant one of the plants into a new container, using the shovel or gardening tool.
- Explain the importance of labeling the new container with the plant's name.
- Water the transplanted plant and place it in a sunny spot.
- Repeat the transplanting process with the second plant, but this time, let the student do it with your guidance.
- Encourage the student to water and care for their newly transplanted plant.
- Discuss the growth process of plants, including the stages from seed to adult plant.
- Have the student draw or write about their plant swap experience in their notebook or journal.
