Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to demonstrate basic writing skills and develop an interest in reading.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencils or crayons

No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Draw and Write: Have your child draw a picture of their favorite animal or a character from a book they enjoy. Encourage them to use their imagination and be creative. Once the drawing is complete, ask them to write a sentence or two about their drawing. You can help them sound out words and write the letters if needed.

  2. Story Time: Choose a short story or a picture book that your child enjoys. Read the story aloud to them, emphasizing the words and pointing to the illustrations. After reading, ask them questions about the story to encourage comprehension and critical thinking.

  3. Letter Hunt: Write the letters of the alphabet on separate pieces of paper and scatter them around the room. Ask your child to find each letter and say its name. For an extra challenge, ask them to think of a word that starts with each letter.
