Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand basic arithmetic concepts through fun activities related to Peppa Pig.

Materials and Prep

  • Peppa Pig toys or images
  • Counting cards (1-10)
  • Pen and paper for drawing

Activities

  1. Counting with Peppa Pig:

Show the Peppa Pig toys or images to the student and ask them to count how many there are. Encourage them to say the numbers out loud as they count.

  2. Addition with Peppa Pig:

Using the counting cards, ask the student to pick two cards randomly. Have them count the total number of items on the cards and write down the sum on the paper.

  3. Subtraction with Peppa Pig:

Using the counting cards again, ask the student to pick two cards randomly. Have them count the total number of items on the first card and subtract the number of items on the second card. Write down the difference on the paper.

  4. Draw and Count:

Ask the student to draw a picture of Peppa Pig and then count the number of different body parts they included in the drawing (e.g., eyes, ears, legs). Encourage them to write down the numbers next to each body part.

Preschool Grade Talking Points

  • "Let's count how many Peppa Pig toys or images we have. Can you say the numbers as you count them?"
  • "Now, let's add two numbers together. Can you pick two counting cards and tell me the sum of the items on them?"
  • "Great job! Now, let's try subtracting. Pick two counting cards again and tell me the difference between the items on them."
  • "It's time to get creative! Draw a picture of Peppa Pig and count how many eyes, ears, and legs you included."
