Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to make bath bombs using baking soda and citric acid and understand the chemical reaction that occurs.
Materials and Prep
Materials needed:
- Baking soda
- Citric acid
- Small mixing bowl
- Measuring spoons
- Water spray bottle
- Optional: food coloring and essential oils for scent
Before the lesson, make sure to have all the materials ready and set up a workspace for the activity.
Activities
1. Measure out 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1/4 cup of citric acid into the mixing bowl.
2. If using, add a few drops of food coloring and a couple of drops of essential oil for scent.
3. Mix the dry ingredients together thoroughly.
4. Using the water spray bottle, lightly spritz the mixture while stirring continuously until it holds together when squeezed in your hand.
5. Press the mixture firmly into small molds or shape them by hand and let them dry for 24 hours.
