Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create your own lantern using simple materials and understand the concept of following instructions.

Materials and Prep

You will need:

  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Markers or crayons

Before starting the lesson, make sure you have a clear workspace and adult supervision if needed.

Activities

1. First, choose a piece of construction paper and decorate it with markers or crayons. This will be the outer part of your lantern.

2. Next, fold the paper in half and cut slits along the folded edge, leaving about an inch uncut at the top.

3. Unfold the paper and bring the short edges together to form a cylinder. Use tape to secure the edges together.

4. Finally, add a handle to your lantern by taping a strip of paper to the top. Your lantern is now ready to light up!
