Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the concept of rain and precipitation, and its importance in the environment.
Materials and Prep
Materials:
- Large piece of paper
- Markers or crayons
- Water spray bottle
Prep:
- Prepare the large piece of paper for drawing and labeling
- Fill the water spray bottle with water
Activities
1. Draw and Label: Have the student draw a picture of a rainy day on the large piece of paper. Encourage them to include clouds, raindrops, and the ground getting wet. Then, help them label the different elements they drew.
2. Rain Simulation: Use the water spray bottle to simulate rain. Spray the water onto the drawing and observe how the "rain" affects the different parts of the drawing.
Kindergarten Grade Talking Points
- Rain is water that falls from the sky. It helps plants and trees grow. "When it rains, the plants and trees get a drink of water to help them grow big and strong."
- Rain comes from clouds in the sky. "The clouds hold the raindrops until they are ready to fall to the ground."
- When it rains, the ground gets wet. "We need rain to help the flowers and grass grow and to fill up the rivers and lakes."
