Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to isolate and pronounce the final sounds in CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words.
Materials and Prep
Materials: Whiteboard or paper, marker or pencil
Prep: None
Activities
1. Sound Detective - Write a few simple CVC words on the whiteboard or paper, and ask the student to identify the final sound in each word. For example, "cat" - "What sound do you hear at the end of the word 'cat'?"
2. Sound Sorting - Prepare a few picture cards of CVC words. Have the student sort the cards based on the final sound they hear. For example, cards with pictures of "cat," "bat," and "hat" can be sorted into groups based on their final sounds.
3. Word Hunt - Take a walk around the house and ask the student to find objects with CVC names. Encourage them to identify and say the final sound of each word they find.
Kindergarten Grade Talking Points
- "Today, we are going to learn about the sounds at the end of words. We will be like detectives and find the special sound at the end of words."
- "Let's look at this picture. What sound do you hear at the end of the word 'cat'? Can you say it out loud?"
- "Now, we have some pictures. Let's sort them based on the sound at the end of the word. Do they have the same sound at the end or different sounds?"
- "As we walk around the house, let's find things that have short names. Can you tell me the sound at the end of each word?"
