- Blank paper or whiteboard for writing
- No prior knowledge needed
Activities

Introduce the short 'u' and the '-um' word family using letter cards. Show the letters 'u' and 'm' and discuss the sound they make together.

Ask the student to identify and sort the letter cards that belong to the '-um' word family (m, t, s, a, I, f, d, r, o, g, l, h, u).

Guide the student to build words using the letter cards from the '-um' word family. For example, 'mum', 'hum', 'sum', 'drum'.

Encourage the student to write the words they have built on the paper or whiteboard.
