Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the basic concepts of physics through hands-on activities using Lego.
Materials and Prep
You will need:
- Lego bricks of various sizes and colors
- A flat surface to build on
- A ruler or measuring tape
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson, just your enthusiasm and creativity!
Activities
1. Build a Lego tower: Use the Lego bricks to build a tower as tall as you can. Measure the height of the tower using the ruler or measuring tape.
2. Explore balance: Build a see-saw using Lego bricks and experiment with different weights on each side to see how it affects the balance.
3. Create a Lego car: Build a simple car using Lego bricks and test how far it can travel by pushing it along a flat surface.
Second Grade Talking Points
- Gravity: "Gravity is the force that pulls things down. It's what keeps us on the ground and makes things fall."
- Balance: "Balance is when things are equal on both sides. It helps things stay steady and not tip over."
- Motion: "Motion is when something is moving. Like when you push your Lego car and it goes forward, that's motion."
