Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will have a deeper understanding of Ancient Egypt, including its history, culture, art, and inventions. You will also be able to make connections between different subjects like history, geography, math, and science in the context of Ancient Egypt.

Materials and Prep

Materials: Paper, pencils, coloring materials, ruler, globe or map of Egypt, internet access for research

Prep: Familiarize yourself with the geography and history of Ancient Egypt, and gather information about mummies, art, culture, and inventions of that time.

Activities

  • Create a map of Ancient Egypt, marking important cities, the Nile River, and other geographical features. Use a ruler to measure and draw to scale.

  • Research and draw a detailed diagram of the mummification process, labeling each step and explaining its significance.

  • Create an Ancient Egyptian-inspired piece of art using symbols and colors that represent their culture and beliefs.

  • Explore the inventions of Ancient Egypt such as the calendar, writing system, and simple machines. Write a short report on one of these inventions, including how it impacted their society and how it connects to math and science.
