Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the basic characteristics of elephants and their connection to Earth Science.

Materials and Prep

Materials: Pictures or books about elephants, paper, crayons or markers

Prep: Familiarize yourself with basic elephant facts and gather materials for the activities.

Activities

1. Elephant Characteristics: Show pictures or books about elephants and discuss their size, trunk, and habitat. Have the student draw and color an elephant.

2. Elephant Habitat: Discuss where elephants live and why it's important for their survival. Have the student draw and color an elephant's habitat.

3. Elephant Movement: Show videos or pictures of elephants walking, running, and playing. Encourage the student to mimic elephant movements.

  • "Elephants are very big animals with a long nose called a trunk. They live in hot places called savannas."
  • "Elephants need lots of space to walk and find food. They use their trunks to pick up food and drink water."
  • "When elephants move, they walk with big, heavy steps. Sometimes they run and play just like we do."
