Materials and Prep
- Story book of choice
- Quiet, comfortable reading area
No additional prep needed.
Activities
- Read Aloud: Read the story book aloud to the student, pointing out characters and settings as you go.
- Character Search: Have the student find and name the main character in the story book.
- Setting Hunt: Ask the student to identify the different settings in the story book and describe them.
- Retelling: Encourage the student to retell the main events of the story book in their own words.
Transitional-Kindergarten Grade Talking Points
- Characters: "Who is the main character in the story? Can you point to them in the pictures?"
- Settings: "Where does the story take place? Can you describe the place where the characters are?"
- Main Events: "What happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the story? Can you tell me in your own words?"
