Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify the main characters, setting, and events in a story book, and explain the beginning, middle, and end of the story.

Materials and Prep

Materials: A story book of the student's choice

Prep: Familiarize yourself with the story book and prepare discussion questions related to characters, setting, and events.

Activities

  • Read the story book together and discuss the main characters, setting, and events in the story.
  • Ask the student to retell the beginning, middle, and end of the story in their own words.
  • Encourage the student to create a simple drawing or craft related to the story.

Second Grade Talking Points

  • "Let's talk about the characters in the story. Who are the main characters? Can you describe them?"
  • "Now, let's think about where the story takes place. What is the setting of the story?"
  • "What are the important things that happen in the story? What are the events that make the story interesting?"
  • "Can you tell me what happened at the beginning of the story? How about in the middle and at the end?"
  • "Let's use our imagination and create a drawing or craft that reminds us of the story. What do you think we can make?"
