Activities
Play a game of freeze tag with the student, and encourage them to pay attention to the different characters, actions, and settings within the game.
After playing, ask the student to describe the story that unfolded during the game. What were the main events? Who were the characters? Where did the story take place?
Discuss with the student how the game of freeze tag can be seen as a form of storytelling, with characters, conflict, and resolution.
Encourage the student to write their own short story based on the freeze tag game they played, incorporating elements of character, setting, and plot.
Talking Points
- "In freeze tag, we can see different characters, like the taggers and the players, each with their own roles and actions."
- "The playground or field where we play freeze tag becomes the setting of our story, just like the setting of a book or movie."
- "The game has a beginning, middle, and end, similar to the structure of a narrative. We can identify the conflict when someone gets tagged, and the resolution when they are unfrozen."
- "Now, let's use what we've learned to create our own story, with characters, setting, and a plot based on our freeze tag game."
