Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify the location of Puerto Rico on a map and understand some key features of the island.

Materials and Prep

Materials: World map, coloring pencils, blank paper

Prep: Familiarize yourself with the location of Puerto Rico on a world map.

Activities

  • Locate Puerto Rico: Show the student a world map and help them find Puerto Rico. Have them color the island on the map.

  • Draw and Describe: Ask the student to draw a picture of what they think Puerto Rico looks like. Then, discuss some key features of the island such as being surrounded by water and having beautiful beaches.

  • "Today we are going to learn about a special place called Puerto Rico. It is an island surrounded by water."
  • "Let's find Puerto Rico on the map. It is a small island in the Caribbean Sea."
  • "What do you think Puerto Rico looks like? Let's draw a picture and talk about its beautiful beaches and warm weather."
