Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the changes that occur in nature during winter and how animals adapt to the cold weather.
Materials and Prep
Materials: Paper, markers, crayons, and any winter-themed craft supplies you have at home.
Prep: Familiarize yourself with some fun facts about winter and animals that hibernate or migrate during this season.
Activities
1. Winter Nature Walk: Take a walk outside to observe the changes in the environment during winter. Look for snow, ice, and any animals or birds you may see.
2. Animal Adaptation Craft: Draw or create a winter scene and then add animals that are adapted to the cold weather, such as penguins, polar bears, or squirrels. Discuss how these animals stay warm and find food in winter.
3. Hibernation or Migration Game: Play a game where you pretend to be a bear hibernating or a bird migrating. Act out how animals prepare for winter.
Preschool Grade Talking Points
- "In winter, the weather gets very cold, and we see snow and ice outside. Animals have different ways to stay warm and find food in winter."
- "Some animals, like bears, sleep all winter. This is called hibernation. They find a cozy place to curl up and sleep until spring."
- "Other animals, like birds, fly to warmer places when it gets cold. This is called migration. They travel to find food and a nice place to stay."
